The pandemic has truly turned our personal and work life upside down. It has changed the way we work and interact with others, how we shop, how we travel and many other things.

Now that the pandemic has almost subsided, with WHO suggesting that it can be downgraded from Pandemic to Endemic, the question now for companies is what next?

One of the challenges for companies are the team cohesiveness. After all, many companies have adopted either hybrid work situations or work from home, so many of the colleagues’ interactions are limited to online meeting. Not to mention, some of the new team members are recruited during pandemic, which means that their introduction to the team is quite limited.

Now the situation has started to improve, as we all can see, the traffic jam in Jakarta has returned, almost back to normal, the malls are reporting almost full recovery. This situation allows the companies to address this team cohesiveness issue, one of the most effective ways is to conduct TEAM BUILDING activity.

And when we talk about team building activity, we need to make sure that we utilize the time efficiently to achieve the maximum impact. This is where Almond Zucchini can help.

The key to successful team building is not just the fun during the activity. It will soon be forgotten. We need to make sure that this activity will bring lasting impact, without too much burden on the budget or time.

People Development Program

At Almond Zucchini, our signature People Development Program has consistently received very high rating from our participants. We use cooking challenge as a method of delivery and while this (often) sounds unusual to the participants and the corporates, at the end, most of participants are very happy with the process and outcome.

Historically, most of our participants (around 90%) are not familiar with the kitchen environment, but this is actually one of the key components for making this program successful. At the start the participants are generally doubtful if they can complete the challenge (making a full course meal from scratch for the team), but with the current 100% success rate, by the end, the participants will be filled with sense of achievement that the impact of this program will be felt long after the program is completed.

An article in Harvard Business Review presented research arguing that cooperative behaviors underlying the subjects’ meal practices—collecting money, planning, talking, cleaning, and, of course, eating—all enhance group performance on the job. It further suggests that “Behavior that might seem superfluous or wasteful to outside observers ultimately carries significant importance for organizational performance”.

As mentioned above, with the current challenges where the teamwork and relationship among colleagues are not yet at optimal level, it will be wise to direct corporates’ resources to a team building activity that can ensure that the result will indeed achieve and enhances trust level and cooperation among the ranks; with a time and cost that is more reasonable compared to the traditional team building activities.
